WANT: A GREATER APPRECIATION FOR THE CLASSICS

In 1963, film director Alfred Hitchcock released his thriller “The Birds”, starring Tippi Hedren. The movie depicted a northern California town inexplicably attacked by birds and, in a pivotal scene, showed the blonde Hedren in a green suit dodging vicious gulls at a garden party.

In 2008, Mattel released “The Birds” Barbie Doll to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the film’s release.

“Until now, it was easy to pick out Nikolas Schiller at meetings about District oversight or voting rights: the dude in the tricorn hat.

“But the artist/activist/blogger is questioning the future of his politically symbolic headgear options after Capitol Police rousted him out of a hearing Wednesday for wearing the hat.”

“A Duke University study on sex toys has raised the ire of the university’s Catholic Center director… Father Joe Vetter says he’s concerned that the study will encourage young women to ‘just sit around and masturbate’.”

WANT: A RIGHTEOUS TATTOO.

Recent news coverage of a gay-bashing assault included footage of one man with this biblical verse tattooed on his arm: “Thou shall not lie with a man as one does with a woman. It is an abomination. Leviticus 18:22”.

Ironically, the next chapter in Leviticus forbids tattooing: “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:28”.

“Goodwill of Greater Washington is looking to open up to 10 more retail stores in the D.C. area by 2014.

“The nonprofit, which is flourishing in a down economy thanks to cost-conscious shoppers, wants to open more stores to appeal to a broader population. Donations are up, which means more room is needed to house its vast inventory of books, shoes and clothes.”

“BALTIMORE — A Johns Hopkins University student killed an intruder he discovered in his garage with a samurai sword, Baltimore police said Tuesday.

“‘The student, in a panic, swung a samurai sword, striking the suspect in the left wrist, partially severing the man’s hand,’ said Baltimore police Det. Donny Moses. ‘Unfortunately the suspect bled out and was pronounced dead at the scene.’”
